Volkswagen New Beetle op

The Volkswagen New Beetle was the cute car that started the retro-futurist design craze, which is still going strong.

The front-wheel-drive Volkswagen New Beetle is available as a two-door hatchback or a two-door convertible. Options include bigger wheels and a rear spoiler. Power comes from a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower. Transmission choices are a standard five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic.

From 1998-2005, the base engine was a 115-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Until recently, turbocharged gasoline engines have been a big part of the New Beetle's trim lineup. Sold from 1999-2006, the New Beetle 1.8T was powered by a 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder, which put out 150 hp. Throughout the years, Volkswagen has released several special-edition models, including limited-edition colors and trim packages. The new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is sleek, swift, and totally sophisticated. The new Beetle offers differing degrees of power, available in four different models – the Beetle GL, Beetle GLS, Beetle GLX, and Beetle Turbo S. We offer monthly updated information in our 2012 Volkswagen Beetle review as data emerges.

We plan to update our 2012 Volkswagen Beetle pictures, specs and links to 2012 Volkswagen accessories as well.

Beetle is the unique girly styled compact cars manufactured in the Volkswagen kingdom which is a German based auto manufacturing company. The first generation of Volkswagen Beetle came into picture a decade ago. Considering the amazing sale performance of previous versions of VW Beetle, Volkswagen is soon coming with a spectacular redesign to be recognized as 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.

The curved front looks more appealing with Volkswagen styled rounded headlamps. The compact car is additionally featured with heated seats, tilt – telescopic steering wheel, cruise control system, climate control system and sound system loaded with CD changer, MP3 player and satellite radio.

Citroen DS5

Citroen DS
Citroen DS
At the forefront of technology, French auto giant PSA Peugeot-Citroen group is already previewing a number of concept vehicles carrying diesel engines and electric motors under its Hymotion4 nickname The carmaker has now substantiated that its first diesel-electric hybrid will arrive on the market in 2011 in the upcoming Citroen DS5 which is the third model in Citroen’s new range of cars, which will include a smaller DS3 and DS4.
As for the DS5, which will launch the diesel-hybrid system, it is predicted to be a premium hatch/crossover due for launch in 2011. Its styling will be shaped by the DS Inside Concept from last month’s Geneva Motor Show, though it will be larger than the show car

Citroen DS5 revealed

It's official - Citroen confirms flagship DS5! Auto Express has the best pictures...

Citroen DS5

TAKE a look at Citroen’s electric dream! Auto Express has learned there will be a hybrid diesel model in the french firm’s showrooms by 2011 – and it’ll be this flagship four-wheel drive DS5.
The largest model in its eagerly- anticipated DS premium range – kicked off at the Geneva Motor Show with the MINI-rivalling DS3 – the DS5 will boast a striking body, inspired by the C-Sportlounge concept car, first revealed at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show.
And to go with its head-turning looks, it’ll boast the eco-friendly diesel hybrid powertrain, which pairs an HDI diesel engine with an electric motor that drives the rear wheels.
The unit will also be used in sister brand Peugeot’s 3008 crossover vehicle (driven in Issue 1,060). The French firms’ parent company PSA said: “The innovative technology delivers a multitude of benefits - considerable fuel savings and around a 35 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions.”
The Peugeot will be the first to market in early 2011, and will have the honour of being the world’s first diesel hybrid passenger car. And while the firm remained tight-lipped on price, its spokesman revealed: “French HQ has always said that it wants the price premium over the diesel version to be less than £2,000.”
The transmission – officially known as the PSA HYbrid4 diesel-electric technology – is being developed at two existing factories in Mulhouse and Sochaux, France. Teams at both are currently working on how best to set up the production lines to manufacturer the new cars, and other future models, which will get the hybrid system.

Citroen DS5 Hybrid in 2011

Citroen DS5 Hybrid diesel electric to launch in 2011
Citroen DS5 Hybrid diesel electric to launch in 2011
Citroen is working hard to change its image and to bring innovative cars to the marketplace. We reported on the revival of the Citroen DS range back in February, and to be honest we were a little underwhelmed by what Citroen seemed to be doing. It seemed little more than a few tweaks and an iconic badge. But news has reached us that the range of DS cars will be a fair bit more interesting than we expected. Citroen has confirmed that they are to launch the Citroen DS5 Hybrid in 2011. The DS5 will be Audi A6-ish in size, and by the looks of it it will be pretty good looking. This does, on the face of it, deserve to carry the DS badge.
But although the exterior is pretty impressive, and a convincing modern interpretation of the iconic DS range, it is under the bonnet that things get interesting. The Citroen DS5 will use diesel hybrid technology, pairing an HDI diesel engine and an electric motor to drive the rear wheels.
The DS5 will feature a new transmission and probably 4WD. In terms of economy and emissions, Citroen reckons that their new Hybrid diesel will reduce emissions by around 35%, with a price premium over the equivalent diesel of around £2,000.
Citroen say that this will be the first passenger diesel Hybrid car in the world when it launches in 2011.
Perhaps the new DS range will be more interesting than we first thought.

2012 Ferrari FF

The 81st Geneva International Motor Show played host to the unveiling of two major new Prancing Horse innovations: the revolutionary Ferrari FF, a four-wheel drive four-seater with a mid-front V12 that is the most powerful and versatile car Ferrari has ever built, and the 458 Italia sporting the HELE (High Emotions Low Emissions) System which cuts CO2 to just 275 g/km.

The Ferrari FF makes its eagerly-waited debut at Geneva after the huge build-up of expectation and interest created by the client premiere at Maranello broadcast online by www.ferrari.com.

The revolutionary Ferrari FF offers a completely new take on the sporting Grand Tourer theme. It is not only the first Ferrari with four-wheel drive, but, more significantly, a model that hails a major break with the past, effortlessly melding extreme sports car performance with the versatility and usability of a genuine GT and boasting an extremely innovative design.

Every single area of the Ferrari FF brims with innovation, not least its engine, the first GDI V12 to be coupled with the seven-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox. The V12 unleashes a massive 660 CV at 8,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 683 Nm at 6,000 rpm with 500 Nm already available at just 1,000 rpm. This ensures the performance figures of an extreme sports car, with the 0-100 km/h sprint covered in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 335 km/h. Efficiency has been significantly boosted too, with fuel consumption now standing at just 15.4 litres per 100 km, and CO2 emissions at 360 g/km, a 25 per cent reduction compared to the previous V12s, thanks in part to the HELE (High Emotions- Low Emissions) System which incorporates Stop&Start technology.Uniquely, the Ferrari FF also guarantees this exceptional performance on terrain with very low grip coefficients, thanks to Ferrari's own patented 4RM four-wheel drive system. Torque is still delivered by the rear wheels, but the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) ensures that as much as is required is also transferred to the front wheels when necessary on low grip surfaces. The Ferrari FF intelligently distributes torque to each of the four wheels individually, thanks to the fact that all of the dynamic vehicle controls (E-Diff, F1-Trac and PTU) have been integrated into a single CPU.

Exceptional sporty driving is guaranteed by the Ferrari FF's transaxle architecture (mid-front engine with gearbox over the rear axle) and the positioning of 53% of weight to the rear of the car. Meticulous attention has been taken in lightening the engine (new castings), bodyshell (new aluminium alloys and production processes) and a host of other components. The interior has also been optimised through the use of high-tech materials such as magnesium for the seats. Third generation Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes are now lighter and longer-lasting, with virtually negligible wear during normal use on the road. All of these innovations have combined to produce an absolutely exceptional weight-power ratio of 2.7 kg/CV, a new benchmark for this kind of car.

2012 Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4

By launching the world's first diesel full hybrid vehicle - the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid 4 - Peugeot will be writing a new chapter in motoring history. The combination of a fuel efficient 2.0 litre 163 bhp HDi diesel engine and a 37 bhp electric motor is the optimal combination for a hybrid vehicle. Unlike previous hybrid vehicles which have chosen to use a less fuel efficient petrol engine, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4's diesel engine provides superior Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption of 74.4mpg, and CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

The use of diesel hybrid technology also brings a range of other benefits:

High performance combined with excellent driveability

Freedom and simplicity of use with the possibility of choosing four different operating modes: ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle), Four-wheel drive, Auto and Sport

Silent operation, when driving in electric only mode

Peace of mind offered by the safety inherent in a four-wheel drive vehicle

Environmental friendliness with CO2 emissions from 99g/km

The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is designed to appeal to demanding, technophile customers who are in search of a rewarding and original vehicle.

In terms of performance, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 benefits from the combined power of the HDi diesel engine and electric motor during acceleration and when an immediate surge of power is required (the "boost" function). The maximum combined power output is 200 bhp, 163 bhp from the 2.0 litre HDi FAP diesel engine and 37 bhp from the electric motor. A maximum torque of 500 Nm is available, split with 300Nm at the front from the HDi diesel engine and 200 Nm at the rear generated by the electric motor. To manage all the available performance a control selector mounted on the centre console enables the driver to choose between four different operating modes.

"Auto" mode: the entire system is automatically controlled, including operation of the HDi diesel engine and the electric motor. This provides optimal driving for fuel consumption and dynamic performance

"ZEV" mode (Zero Emission Vehicle) provides access to an extensive all-electric mode. Activation of the HDi diesel engine is programmed to coincide with only more sustained phases of acceleration. This requires the high-voltage batteries to be sufficiently charged and turns the vehicle into a "city run-around" par excellence due to the total absence of noise and emissions.

Four-wheel drive mode (4WD) instructs both power trains to operate together as far as possible; the rear wheels are driven by the electric motor and the front wheels by the HDi diesel engine. It offers peace of mind, safety, improved driveability and accentuates the vehicle's dynamic character. At low speed it allows "all-terrain" capabilities equivalent to those of an SUV. The driver will, therefore, no longer be concerned by the prospect of a slippery track or a snowbound uphill drive to a ski resort

"Sport" mode favours quicker gear changes at higher engine speeds than normal mode. In this mode, the notion of "controlled power" comes into its own, coupling the diesel engine with the electric motor provides more dynamic performance, optimally distributed and transmitted to the road by the four wheel drive for a level of stability and driveability that will appeal to motoring enthusiasts.

With the Peugeot 3008 equipped with HYbrid4 technology, the aim is to appeal to customers who expect both environmental-friendliness and technological sophistication, and also genuine driving enjoyment.

Indeed, as well as the social benefit of the steep reduction in fuel consumption, the level of performance provided by this technology will delight even the most demanding customers in terms of road holding, responsiveness, driveability, peace of mind regardless of road conditions and the possibility of enjoying silent operation in town in the all-electric mode.

HYbrid4 technology brings together Peugeot's best technologies and experience: HDi diesel engines, electric vehicle knowledge, second-generation Stop & Start and electronically-controlled sequential manual gearboxes.

The "hybrid" power train simply combines an HDi diesel engine and an electric motor. With their exceptional efficiency, HDi diesel engines are thermodynamically more efficient than a petrol engine and offer a 30% reduction in fuel consumption. Clearly the HDi diesel engine is the best internal combustion engine choice.

For the "electric" component, Peugeot has historical expertise in the field of electric vehicles. To date, the 106 Electric, marketed between 1995 and 2003, remains the world's best selling zero emissions car (in total nearly 10,000 vehicles were produced). At the end of 2010, Peugeot will become the first to launch a latest-generation 100% electric vehicle in Europe, the Peugeot i0n.

Pursuing the common sense approach of capitalising on the best existing components and expertise, it was only natural to use Peugeot's electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox, not only for its engine management capabilities but also for its ability to optimise fuel consumption. To improve performance even further a second-generation STOP & START system is also used.

The choice of hybrid architecture was also guided by the search for optimal efficiency and consistency. Hybrid technology uses two power trains which can operate alternately or simultaneously:

The HDi diesel engine operates in its most optimal operating window on longer, out-of-town journeys. A diesel engine still remains the most efficient and versatile choice to power any vehicle

The electric motor takes over from the HDi diesel engine in phases of lower power demands, particularly when pulling away, driving at low speed and decelerating (for energy recovery). These are precisely the features that characterise urban driving

Changeover from the HDi diesel engine to the electric motor occurs automatically, due to a STOP & START system which places the HDi diesel engine in standby and restarts it as and when conditions require (the operation of the accelerator pedal, low battery charge level, etc…).

The two power sources also complement each other in certain driving conditions ("boost" effect during hard acceleration, or when overtaking another vehicle, for example). The performance of the HYbrid4 is therefore directly comparable to that obtained with a single HDi diesel engine of a much higher capacity, with good levels of responsiveness backed by a real breakthrough in terms of reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (around 35 % less in the combined cycle for equivalent performance).

The electric motor and its ancillary equipment (inverter, converter, etc) are fitted at the rear of the vehicle. This provides a number of advantages not only in terms of customer benefits and it also helps reduce costs and optimise the production process.

The original layout of the Hybrid4 system allows for the possibility of four-wheel drive. The HDi diesel engine drives the front wheels, while the electric motor (in the rear drive train) drives the rear wheels.

Everything is controlled electronically ("by wire") and there are no mechanical links between the front and the rear drivetrains. This gives the system many advantages over a "traditional" mechanical system.

No structural constraints affecting the layout and design within the passenger compartment

4x4 and environmental-friendliness are no longer contradicting terms

The installation at the rear, of all the vehicle's "electrical components", has further technical and economic benefits.

Firstly, it avoids the need for any major redesign of the vehicle's engine compartment, while also improving weight distribution. It also leaves intact the possibility of using a range of different capacity engines, for possible future introduction.

Secondly, this architecture is achieved by means of the use of a simple and compact rear module containing the electric motor, its ancillary equipment and also the rear drive train and suspension.

The costs of the rear module are, therefore, reduced because of the technical possibility of deploying the same HYbrid4 technology into different market segments, in different body shapes, etc…, regardless of the type of internal combustion engine used.

A real breakthrough in terms of reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while improving dynamic performance levels, providing four-wheel drive and an electric only mode, HYbrid4 technology brings a number of benefits without compromises.

Furthermore, the driveability, safety and eco-efficiency of the system are based on simple, reasonable and consistent technological choices.

The Peugeot 3008 Crossover was chosen as the first application of this innovative technology.

2.0 litre HDi FAP 163 bhp diesel engine

With a capacity of 1997 cm³, this Euro 5 engine develops a maximum power of 163 bhp at 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 300Nm at 1580 rpm. To obtain this level of performance it uses Peugeot's latest generation ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System) combustion chamber design, a variable-geometry low-inertia turbocharger, a high-pressure injection pump allowing a maximum pressure of 2000 bar and solenoid injectors with eight apertures.

Naturally this is combined with the latest generation "octosquare" Eolys additive-enhanced diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) system.

Electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox (BMP6)

The HDi diesel engine is mated to an electronically-controlled manual six-speed sequential gearbox:

In automatic mode its electronic control helps provide significant savings in fuel consumption, compared to a traditional automatic gearbox or even a traditional manual gearbox

It offers real driving satisfaction derived from the possibility of choosing the gear change mode at any time - manual or automatic - with either the gear lever or via controls behind the steering wheel

The gear change quality of the gearbox has been enhanced with HYbrid4 technology, as the rear electric motor is activated during gear changes to improve the smoothness of the operation, and sustains drive in between gear changes.

Latest-generation STOP & START system

This system places the HDi diesel engine in standby when the vehicle is at a standstill (at traffic lights, a stop sign or in a traffic jam, etc) and when the vehicle is being driven in electric-only mode. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions in urban driving conditions while also enabling.the HDi diesel engine to be restarted instantly and smoothly, when required.

The "high voltage" STOP & START system has a maximum output of 8 kW and can generate enough energy to supply the power requirements for the rear electric motor if required (four-wheel drive mode).

Rear suspension

To ensure a dynamic performance on a par with Peugeot's reputable road holding standards, the rear electric module also includes a multi-arm rear suspension within which are housed the electric motor and the reduction gearbox.

ESP

The ESP system fitted to the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 incorporates an "improved traction control system" (ASR) able to exploit the car's four-wheel drive capabilities to the full on challenging surfaces. The performance of the system can be enhanced by the fitment of optional 16'' 'Mud & Snow' tyres.

Electric motor

The synchronous permanent magnet electric motor is located at the rear of the vehicle. It provides a constant 27 bhp, with a peak output of 37 bhp. It generates a constant torque of 100 Nm, or a peak of 200 Nm when necessary.

PTMU (Power Train Management Unit)

The PTMU is the electronic control unit that automatically manages the different operating modes of the HDi diesel engine and the electric motor, programmed to optimise fuel consumption.

An inverter and a converter are used to control the electric power. The inverter controls the torque of the electric motor by regulating the electrical current supplied from the high-voltage battery pack. It operates in a voltage range of between 150 and 270 volts. The converter reduces the 200 volts from the high-voltage battery pack into 12 volts to supply the vehicle's onboard systems.

On the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 all these components have been made as compact as possible to optimise the installation and weight effect in the vehicle.

High-voltage battery pack

The Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are located under the boot floor, near the electric motor. The high-voltage battery pack is in addition to the standard 12V battery under the bonnet, which carries on performing its normal duties.

In the medium term, this battery technology remains the most appropriate in terms of cost and industrialisation for vehicles produced in large volumes.

Energy recovery

An energy recovery system (the electric motor becomes a generator) enables the kinetic energy created by the vehicle to be transformed into electrical energy to recharge the Ni-MH batteries during deceleration (release of the accelerator pedal and during braking). This recovery system enables the driver to re-deploy the "free" (Kinetic) energy to reduce fuel consumption accordingly.

Man-machine interface

A 7" 16/9 colour screen or a multi-function display, according to the car's specification, informs the driver in real time of the operating status of the hybrid power train. It also shows, for a given journey, operating times in different modes and the status of the battery charge.

On the instrument panel the left-hand dial indicates the percentage of power used or recovered during phases of braking or deceleration. Different scales indicate the battery status: Charge, Eco (optimal operating range), Power, Boost (maximum use jointly with the HDi diesel engine).

Suppliers

To develop its HYbrid4 technology, the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group has teamed up with suppliers offering the best expertise in each field. Based on the manufacturer's technical specifications, BOSCH has provided its expertise with respect to the electric motor, the power electronics, the reversible high-voltage alternator / generator and other systems managing the dialogue between these components, the braking and trajectory correction systems (ABS and ESP). Similarly, SANYO has provided its extensive knowledge in the field of Ni-MH high-voltage batteries.

A distinctive design

The new Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is distinguished by its cutting-edge technology, combining responsible driving and driving enjoyment, but also by its specific styling.

At the front, Peugeot's latest design cues have been adapted to match the 3008's generous dimensions and to mark a break with existing models. The headlamps now have an integral bar of LEDs providing a daytime lighting function and accentuate the 3008's appearance. The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 also proudly wears the Marque's new Lion badge on its bonnet.

At the rear, the rear spoiler has a two-tone finish with a high gloss black section, helping to differentiate it from the other 3008 models in the range, as do the chrome badges which decorate the sides and rear of the car.

Interior

Inside its roomy architecture, the driving position bears all the hallmarks of a top-of-the-range vehicle, or even that of an aircraft cockpit. An expansive fascia panel, controls within easy hand's reach and an ergonomic centre console clearly separate the territory of the "pilot". Combined with a raised and dominating driving position it has everything in place to reward its drivers and offer a range of new driving experiences not previously found in a conventional hybrid vehicle.

Distinctive materials are deployed throughout to accentuate the Crossover feel and explore new avenues of expression. This is true in particular of the new and specific Guérande & Tramontane two-tone leather finish which subtly combines bright pale grey on the seat cushions with a black finish on the sides of the seats.

The gear lever with its modern and elegant design is a key feature of the HYbrid4 technology. It enhances the technological ambience in the same way as the 7" colour display which provides information on the flow of energy. A specific steering wheel bearing the signature HYbrid4 adds a touch of exclusivity to the car.

"Multiflex" interior

Due to its intelligent "Multiflex" interior and clever integration of the batteries and the innovative rear suspension, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 can also be transformed to offer a considerable load capacity under the parcel shelf of 420 litres (362 dm3 VDA), with 66 litres (29 dm3 VDA) available under the boot floor.

The split lower tailgate opens to reveal a boot with a flat floor equipped with longitudinal securing rings that exude quality and strength. From the boot, a rear seat folding system, controlled by switches mounted on the load area side trims, allow the seats in the second row to be folded automatically, 'as if by magic'.

Combined with the folding front passenger seat, the 3008 HYbrid4 offers a perfectly flat floor from the tailgate to the fascia panel. This frees up a gigantic 1501 litre compartment that is easy to load.

Driving aids

Comfortably seated behind the steering wheel, drivers will note among the equipment at their disposal certain references to the world of aviation.

For example, to ensure that the driver never needs to take an eye off the road ahead, and as in a jet aircraft, essential driving information is projected onto a retractable transparent panel which cleverly extends from the instrument panel. The Head-Up Display system can be adjusted by means of toggle switches.

These switches, located above the centre console, add a further touch of style to the in-car ambience. They also control another original item of equipment - the Distance Alert system. As its name implies, this function helps the driver to keep aware of the safe distance from the vehicle in front, according to the 3008's speed.

Another item of equipment that helps to ensure maximum driving convenience is the Parallel Park Assist (PPA). This system assesses the size of a space during parking manoeuvres and determines the possibility of parking in it.

Similarly, the electric handbrake coupled with the Hill Assist function, helps the driver during manoeuvres but also optimises the interior space within the vehicle.

Finally, a latest-generation satellite navigation system helps to guide users on their travels.

The Peugeot Connect 3-D Media Navigation (NG4) includes all the benefits of the Marque's existing satellite navigation systems. These include a juke-box function, linked to a hard disc, Peugeot Connect services, GSM function, a USB connector, a DVD player, a Bluetooth® system and a display which shows specific buildings in full 3D.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is a Crossover with an exceptional technological content offering unique versatility and safety, unrivalled driving enjoyment and CO2 emissions of a very low level. Peugeot's choice of the diesel hybrid demonstrates that it is possible to combine uncompromising environmental demands with driving experiences not previously available in a hybrid vehicle.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 will be produced in France (in Sochaux and Mulhouse) and marketed in the spring of 2011 in Europe.

Honda Jazz Hybrid

Honda's continuing commitment to petrol-electric hybrid technology. The launch of the latest addition to the practical Jazz line-up marks the first time a parallel hybrid vehicle has been available to B-segment consumers. Importantly the Honda Jazz Hybrid will not lose any of its practicality, with the compact nature of the Honda IMA system allowing the B-segment car to retain its ultra-flexible "Magic Seats" and 300 litres of boot space.

The IMA battery pack and power control unit have been integrated in the area under the boot floor, retaining the normal boot area and allowing the "Magic Seats" to fold in the same manner as non-hybrid versions. This means that the seats still fold entirely flat to provide a surprising 831 litre of space or the seat bases can be folded up to sit vertically, so as to accommodate tall items within the car.

The IMA hybrid system is shared with the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, taking advantage of the proven reliability of this important technology. With almost two decades of development and 10 years of sales behind it, the Honda IMA system has proven itself to be a flexible and dependable system, with over half a million vehicles on the road benefitting from its combination of low emissions and fuel economy.

The new model features the same IMA system as in the Insight hybrid, using the same 1.3 litre i-VTEC engine as its dedicated hybrid model sibling. The IMA system is combined with a CVT gearbox in the Honda Jazz and with emissions of just 104 g/km of CO2 it has the lowest CO2 output of any automatic car in the B-segment. As a petrol-electric hybrid, the new derivative has ultra-low levels of other exhaust emissions, not just taxable elements.Visually the Honda Jazz Hybrid is distinguished from the current Jazz range with revised headlights, which have a blue surround, clear rear lights, new front grille, restyled bumpers and a chrome tailgate garnish. The new hybrid will be available in a range of existing colours plus a bespoke Lime Green metallic.

Inside the cabin is given a fresh look with a darker single colour dashboard, which contrasts strongly with the blue lighting of the dials and centre console. The new hybrid is also available with leather trim, the first time this has been available on a Jazz model in Europe. The dashboard integrates a version of the Eco Assist function, which uses the ambient lighting of the speedometer to advise the driver on how their driving style is impacting on their fuel economy. The Eco Assist function aides drivers in getting the maximum economy from their car in everyday situations and gives users real-time feedback on how their use of the brakes and throttle affects their fuel bills and environmental impact.

While respecting the unique features of the car, a range of Genuine Accessories will accentuate its hybrid character even further. Decoration items, such as doorstep garnishes, a variety of exterior and interior stickers, B-pillar garnishes and alloy wheels can be fitted according to the driver's personal taste. A Solid State Drive navigation, hands-free Bluetooth® and rear entertainment system are set to provide extra technological comfort. A complete range of Genuine Accessories is available for those customers that want to add in even more functionality and style.

The Honda Jazz Hybrid will go on sale in some European markets in the early part of 2011, prices and full specifications will be announced in due course.

2011 Mazda 2

2011 Mazda 2 in green colour

Now you can add the 2011 Mazda 2 to that list of price-conscious hatchbacks. On the plus side, the Mazda 2 is quite sporty to drive, and indeed this is one area where Mazda is quite proud of its new entry-level car. The list of standard and available features for the Mazda is quite short, too.

The 2011 Mazda 2 is a five-passenger, four-door subcompact hatchback that is available in two trim levels -- Sport and Touring. The Sport comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a tilt steering wheel and a four-speaker CD/MP3 audio system with an auxiliary input jack.

The EPA estimates fuel economy at 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway for the manual transmission and 27/33 mpg for the automatic.

Standard safety features for the 2011 Mazda 2 include antilock brakes (discs in front/drums in rear), front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and stability and traction control.

The 2011 Mazda 2's interior is comparable to other hatchbacks in this economical price range. With those rear seats in place, cargo capacity is 13.3 cubic feet, which is small for a hatchback.

Among the most hotly anticipated (at least among Car and Driver staffers) is the 2011 Mazda 2, Mazda’s first America-bound B-segment vehicle since the 323 and arguably the best such car Mazda has ever built.

Unavailable, for example, even on Touring models, are a telescoping steering wheel, a sunroof, integrated navigation (a portable Garmin system will be available from dealers), a USB port, and a hands-free Bluetooth system. Ditto the front-disc, rear-drum brakes. Meanwhile, fuel economy is good if not worldbeating, at 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway for the five-speed manual and 27/33 for the four-speed automatic.

The Mazda2 press junket was shaping up to be one of those trips. Old-tech 4-speed automatic.

Mazda's stylists applied scaled-down versions of their latest styling cues -- the big smiling grille (link goes to photo), the strong front fender line, the trapezoidal rear window -- and while those same details stick out like sore thumbs on the bigger Mazda3, they somehow manage to blend right in on the little Mazda2.

At the front of the room, the Mazda staffers were talking about the virtues of the new Mazda2: refinement, light weight, price.

I picked a bright-red "Mazda2" Touring with a manual transmission and settled in. I certainly didn't feel like I was sitting in Mazda's cheapest car.

As much as I liked the Mazda2, my heart belongs to the Ford Fiesta. It's great to drive and its high-tech twin-clutch automatic delivers better fuel economy than the Mazda2, plus it offers features that the Mazda doesn't such as leather seats and iPod integration. Still, the Fiesta lacks the Mazda's quiet engine and smooth ride -- not to mention its proven Japanese build quality.

The car that poses the biggest challenge to the Mazda2 might well be the Nissan Versa, which has a roomy, well-trimmed cabin and a very attractive price tag but lacks the Mazda's good looks. Considering what the competition offers, I think the Mazda's mix of attributes will serve it well.

2011 Mazdaspeed 3

2011 Mazdaspeed 3 in blue colour

At the heart of the 2011 Mazdaspeed 3's appeal is its turbocharged 2.3-liter engine. That said, it's easily managed and reminds you that this potent hot hatch demands respect from your right foot. Thanks to its decent-sized rear seats and 42.8 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity, the Speed 3 can handle just about anything life throws at you.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 is a four-door hatchback available in one trim level known as Sport. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, high-performance summer tires, a limited-slip differential, foglights, full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, front sport seats, leather and cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a digital turbo-boost gauge, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker stereo with CD player, auxiliary audio jack and steering wheel controls.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Though the 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 itself hasn't been crash tested, the similar Mazda 3 five-door hatchback upon which it's based has been tested. In government testing, the Mazda 3 scored five out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in a frontal crash, five stars for front side protection and four stars for rear side protection.

Interior Design and Special Features

The Mazdaspeed variant differs from the regular Mazda 3 with its upgraded gauges and sport front seats with standard black leather upholstery with cloth inserts. The front seat offers a wide range of adjustment (though no power adjustment is available) and the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel is a welcome feature.

Driving Impressions

Routing 280 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels is usually a recipe for annoying amounts of steering-wheel-tugging torque steer. Impressively precise, the steering provides plenty of communication and faithfully transmits road information like few front-wheel-drive cars can.

The MAZDASPEED3 features an advanced torque management system, which minimizes torque steer by adjusting torque output based on gear position and steering angle. Combined with wide, high-grip 225/40R18 Dunlop SP Sport 2050 performance tires, the MAZDASPEED3’s suspension tuning marries unflappable control with a comfortable everyday ride.

Rigid high-speed steering feel can be accomplished without suffering heavy steering at low speeds.

For 2011, the MAZDASPEED3 Technology Package is expanded with rain-sensing front wipers, auto on/off headlights, Bi-Xenon headlights with auto leveling, Adaptive Front-lighting system (AFS), and LED rear combination taillights. The MAZDASPEED3 is the third model in the 2011 MAZDA3 lineup, joining the MAZDA3 5-door, and the 4-door sedan.

Inside the MazdaSpeed3 gets the sort of boy-racer stylings the bodywork suggests, mixed with Mazda’s unusually premium-for-its-class interior. Our Velocity Red Mica test car featured black and red interior patterned material on the doors, with the same design (in plastic) running across the dash. The Nav system, a part of the $1,895 Tech Package is humorously small.

Sure it’s a functional front-drive hatchback, but the MazdaSpeed3 delivers horsepower and handling, not to mention great looks and an interior well above many of its competitors. With few reasonably priced performance vehicles on the road, the MazdaSpeed3 is, thankfully, a hard-core hot hatch that delivers.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS front side view

New 911 GT2 RS has a strong ratio of only 2.21 kg or 4.9 kg of body weight per horsepower . Porsche 911 GT2 RS boxer engine with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine is driven by two turbochargers with variable geometry specific to the Porsche driven in conjunction with a gasoline engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the fastest and most powerful road sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing hc F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, and mark the peak in the range of 911. With a power of 90 horsepower and low weight of 70 kg compared with the previous 911 GT2 The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS has a power to weight ratio averaged only 2.21 kg per horse by far the best power / weight in your class.

Obviously, these are the ideal ingredients for a sports car with ultra-high performance supreme agility, combined with truly blistering performance on the road and of course Porsche exemplary intelligent performance attributes. “RS GT2″ model designations provides greater differentiation in the doors and rear engine cover. Behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the style of sports performance continues. Porsche GT2 RS – Key facts and technical specifications

Take features developed for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS include: use of small arms and diagonal cross aluminum rear suspension, carbon fiber reinforced front cover and rear spoiler, rear window and the polycarbonate side windows, bonnet light, lighter single-mass flywheel, lighter lithium-ion battery.

Dynamic improvements include: new air charge intercooler, metal bearings with full support ball joints in front suspension, door panels, lightweight, wider track front, turbo increased to 1.6 bar to 1.4 bar, wider front track with wider tires (same size as the GT3 RS).

As the fastest Porsche production car ever, the German automaker is making sure that the car’s exterior and interior features also won’t disappoint. So they decided to go all-out on the car’s aesthetics, starting with the lavish use of carbon-fiber-reinforced (CFR) components in a matte-black surface finish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as ”GT2 RS“ model designations on the doors and rear lid. As for the interior, the 911 GT2 RS exudes the flair and panache of top quality sporting performance in virtually every detail, including the lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps.

While the 458 Italia comes with a powerful 4.5 Liter V8 engine that produces 570 horsepower with a 201-mph top speed, the 911 GT2 RS has the leg up, thanks to its 3.6 liter six-cylinder boxer engine with 620 horsepower and a 205-mph top speed. Despite the "slower" top speed, the 458 Italia jumps off the block as fast as the 911 GT2 RS, posting a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds compared to the 911 GT2 RS’ time of 3.5 seconds (0-62 mph).

2011 Ford Transit Connect

2011 Ford Transit Connect in white color

Ford's "One Ford" strategy, which refers to the company's plan to leverage its global product lineup to spread models across new markets, is responsible for bringing the Transit Connect stateside. It's a small commercial van Ford introduced in Europe and other markets in 2003. Maximum cargo space is about 135 cubic feet, close to that of larger minivans. The front-wheel-drive Transit Connect comes in cargo and passenger configurations, the latter with a second row

From the load floor to the ceiling, Ford says there's up to 59.1 inches of room, just 5.9 inches short of what a standard-height Dodge Sprinter offers. The Ford Transit Connect enters its sophomore year in the U.S. with few changes. The most important addition is a new model and powertrain option: the Ford Transit Connect Electric, which is reviewed separately.

Offered as both a cargo and passenger van, the Transit Connect is more suited for commercial than personal use. As Consumer Guide says, "Transit Connect neatly fills a size gap between the compact Chevrolet HHR Panel and enormous Dodge/Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Transit Connect succeeds as a small cargo van. For businesses, Ford also offers its Work Solutions computer system. Unless the vast cargo space or increased payload/towing capacity of a full-size van are absolutely essential to you, the Transit Connect is a viable and economical alternative for businesses in need of a commercial van.

However there are many vehicles that can be cross-shopped with the Transit Connect. However the Mazda5 and Kia Rondo offer far less cargo space compared to the Transit Connect.

Like most European-bred vans, the 2011 Ford Transit Connect is all about packing maximum functionality into minimum space.

The 2011 Ford Transit Connect is a compact work van available in XL Van, XLT Van, XLT Wagon and XLT Premium Wagon trim levels. The XLT Van adds body-color bumpers, full power accessories, heated mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a cargo area 12-volt power point and a CD player.

Entry-level XLT Wagon models get stability control, foglights and a 60/40-split-folding three-passenger second-row bench seat. The new XLT Premium Wagon adds flip-open rear side windows, storage pockets in the rear doors and a four-speaker audio system.

The Van trims can also be equipped with the Tool Link by DeWalt tool tracking and inventory system. Options available on the XLT trims include rear parking sensors, rear doors that open to 255 degrees, Bluetooth and remote ignition. Every 2011 Ford Transit Connect features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 138 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque.

EPA-estimated fuel economy is 20 mpg city/26 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.

Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock brakes (disc front, drum rear) and front side airbags. Stability control is standard on Wagon models and available as an option on Van body styles. In NHTSA frontal crash tests, the Transit Connect earned a top five-star frontal crash rating for the driver and a four-star rating for the front seat passenger, as well as five stars for both front and rear passengers in side-impact tests.

Inside, the Transit Connect offers a carlike driving position. When it comes to cargo capacity, the Transit Connect Van offers a healthy 135 cubic feet, which is about 100 cubic feet less than Ford's larger Econoline vans. For ferrying people around, the Wagon's rear seats offer a firm seat bottom and reasonable elbow room. The 2011 Ford Transit Connect's emphasis on practicality is reflected in the driving experience.

2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic

2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic in red colour and side view

Ford has revealed the all-new 2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic and its hybrid-beating fuel consumption figure of 3.5 litres/100km ahead of its debut at next week’s Amsterdam Motor Show.

The 2012 Focus ECOnetic will be powered by the same 1.6-litre Ford Duratorq diesel engine as the Fiesta, although it has 77kW of power (up from 66kW) and has been optimised for enhanced fuel efficiency.

The Focus ECOnetic will be available in five-door hatch and estate body styles. CarAdvice has contacted Ford Australia about its plans for the 2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic and its potential to be launched Down Under.

The main reason for this incredible figure is the 1.6-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine which is further optimized for the ECOnetic with new injection system and turbocharger, improved fill air cooling and friction decrease innovation. Ford Focus also supplied with such an automatic stop and go, Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and Shift Indicator Light.

The system is mated with Ford’s six-speed manual gear shifter of new revolution Durashift. The other new matter is, otherwise perfectly updated, presents to improve fuel economical usage involving:

- Decrease engine friction from liberate-friction piston ring coatings and optonal flow oil pump.

- Extra decreasing in engine power losses from low inactive vacuum pump and not symmetrical handle sprocket model.

- Revised discharge system mating a diesel NOx-decreasing catalyst with a coated Diesel Particulate Filter system.

The Focus ECOnetic 1.6 liter diesel combined with manual transmission 6-speed Ford Durashift, which is also used in the new Focus models with 1.6-liter TDCi engine. Focus ECOnetic model, standard on the innovative Active Grille Shutter – has developed a new system, which optimizes the aerodynamic behavior of the holes to control the flow of air through the grille and the cooling system and engine room. The new Ford Focus ECOnetic will be produced for the European market lead in manufacturing Focus in Saarlouis, Germany.

2011 Nissan 370Z Coupe

2011 Nissan 370Z Coupe in red colour

Available as a coupe or a roadster, reviewers agree that it is the Z is a lot of car for the money, although its price does approach that of luxury sports cars.

Consumers on the hunt for an affordable sports car should check out the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Ford Mustang. The rear seats of the Mustang aren’t recommended for adults, but with 13.4 cubic feet of cargo space the Mustang nearly doubles the space available in the 370Z. Opt for the GT trim, and the Mustang will match the 370Z’s straight line performance, while offering nimble handling by muscle car standards.

2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid

Altima in blue colour

Altima Hybrid is licensed from Toyota’s Hybrid Technology. Hybrid model is unchanged for this year’s model. 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid model is available in single trim level. Nissan Altima Hybrid model can be offered with three packages. Packages offered with this model include Convenient Package, Premium Package and Technology Package.

Convenient Package include foldable side view mirrors, eight way power adjustable driver seats, automatic headlights, leather wrapped steering column, rear spoilers, outside rear view mirrors integrated with turn signals and steering wheel with audio controls mounted on it.

In a growing class, the 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid is easily overlooked because of its low fuel economy ratings, limited availability and expensive optional packages.

In theory, the 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid is an ideal hybrid sedan. Second, the Altima Hybrid has great fuel economy ratings if you compare it to gasoline cars. However, once you look at competing hybrids like the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Toyota Prius, the Altima’s ratings aren’t impressive. "The 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid is a solid hybrid family sedan that also happens to be relatively sporty to drive,” says Edmunds. The 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid’s main competitors are the Toyota Prius, Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Toyota Camry Hybrid, each of which bring one or more of these strengths to the table: excellent fuel economy, value, comfort and strong performance.

Nissan has been somewhat hobbled by the fact that its mid-size Altima hybrid sedan utilizes many hybrid parts courtesy of Toyota, which have so far restricted the car’s availability and also profitability.

Other somber exterior colors, such as Navy Blue, Ocean Grey, Dark Slate, Winter Frost, Super Black and (this is a good one) Radiant Silver, help cement this car’s persona as sensible and safe. That said, the Hybrid version appears somewhat out of place compared to its sportier siblings, the Altima sedan and coupe. The Altima Hybrid comes with a standard 6.5-inch centrally mounted touch screen and hard drive navigation system as part of the Technology Package.

Back seat space is decent, with ample legroom (35.8 inches, versus 44.1-in up front).

The powertrain consists of Nissan’s 2.5-liter QR25 four-cylinder, twin cam engine that boasts continuous variable valve timing and electronic throttle control, teamed with an electric motor and a Hybrid Vehicle Electric Control Unit (HV-ECU) that works in conjunction with a Continuously Variable Transmission to provide drive to the wheels.

Unlike Honda’s hybrids, but like the Toyota Prius, the Altima is a true hybrid – the torque produced from the electric motor at zero rpm gives sufficient thrust to move the car at low speeds without assistance of the gasoline engine. For the Hybrid, it’s rated at 158 horsepower at 5200-6000 rpm and 162 ft-lbs of torque. The latter figure is reached at a relatively low 2800 rpm, providing lively mid-range acceleration. Nissan claims that the Altima Hybrid can go around 600 miles between fill ups and EPA fuel economy ratings are 33-mpg city and 35-mpg highway. During our time with the Altima Hybrid, we put it through multiple 120 mile round trips, much of it through city driving, and the difference in fuel consumption was quite noticeable with visits to the pump almost halved. Still, when compared to newer and more advanced hybrids like the Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata, the fuel economy is less than impressive.

Although the Altima Hybrid doesn’t exactly scream ‘enthusiast,’ the chassis and suspension tuning are definitely biased toward the tauter side of comfort. The ride is fairly firm, even with the 16-inch wheels and high profile 60 series tires, while pushing the car through the turns reveals surprisingly neutral handling for a front driver. Standard Vehicle Stability Control also helps. The Altima Hybrid sports four-wheel disc brakes with standard ABS and features regenerative braking, a feature common to other hybrid cars. For 2011 the Altima Hybrid’s price remains unchanged at $26,780 for a single, decently equipped model. Given the high profile status that hybrids currently enjoy, the Altima Hybrid seems to have been lost in the shadows almost since the day it was introduced.

2011 Nissan Cube

2011 Nissan Cube in golden colour

The Nissan Cube is hard to pigeonhole. As part city-friendly microvan, part tall compact wagon, and part utility vehicle, it's unrivaled in style and packaging. The 2011 Nissan Cube is an oddity, no doubt. Like the Scion xB, the Cube has a boxy design with rounded corners everywhere, but with its asymmetry and flared sheetmetal for the wheel wells and rear fascia, the Cube is far more distinctive than the xB. All Cube models come with a 122-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, powering the front wheels.

The Cube's interior is actually more spacious for passengers than the exterior design suggests. Cargo-wise, the Nissan Cube isn't quite as stellar. The top Kr?m model gives the 2011 Nissan Cube a dressed-up appearance—including a roof spoiler, a chrome grille with horizontal bars, bright painted alloy wheels, interior accent lighting, aluminum pedals, and a different front and rear fascia, plus various extras, such as Bluetooth, steering-wheel audio controls, and a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer.

Despite its somewhat boxy shape, the 2011 Nissan Cube is surprisingly nimble on the road. As fun as the Cube is to drive, though, it comes at a price: noise. Road noise in the 2011 Cube, especially when on the freeway, is practically unbearable.

The 2011 Nissan Cube’s 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is capable of 122 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. The most affordable version of the Cube comes with a six-speed manual transmission. Higher trims have an optional continuously variable transmission, or CVT, available. Cubes with manual transmissions get fuel economy ratings of 24/29/26. Cubes with the CVT get fuel economy ratings of 28/30/29.

A navigation system is available for the 2011 Cube, though, which is sure to win some drivers over. Visibility is exceptional, making for a safe driving experience.

The Nissan Cube is unusual looking, which is a big part of its attraction to drivers.--There are two main advantages to the 2011 Nissan Cube: fun and affordability. This car is definitely geared towards young drivers; its unique styling isn’t going to appeal to everyone. Nimble handling and fairly good gas mileage are also perks of driving the Cube. Zipping around in this eye-catching car is definitely an experience.

Without a doubt, the 2011 Nissan Cube’s unique styling is one of its biggest downfalls.

The 2011 Nissan Cube remains an eccentrically styled four-door wagon with surprising room for four big adults. hould you buy the 2011 Nissan Cube or wait for a 2012 Nissan Cube? The Nissan Versa that donates its underskin engineering to the Cube is set to be fully redesigned for model-year 2012 or 2013, but the Cube isn’t likely to change until a model-year or two after Versa’s redesign.

The 2011 Nissan Cube styling continues with the same blend of cute and weird it debuted with for model-year 2009. The 2011 Nissan Cube is offered in four models, labeled 1.8, 1.8 S, 1.8 SL, and 1.8 Krōm Edition. Cube 1.8 and 1.8 S models come with 15-inch tires with wheel covers; 1.8 SL and 1.8 Krōm Edition models come with 16-inch alloys. Mechanical: The 2011 Nissan Cube carries over mechanically unchanged. In contrast to its funky image, Cube is quite orthodox mechanically. Based on the Versa’s proven platform and powertrain, the Cube has front-wheel drive, a beam rear axle, and rear drum brakes.

Standard on every 2011 Nissan Cube are antilock brakes with brake assist, plus traction-control and antiskid systems. Seat mounted front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags for both seating rows are likewise included.

The 2011 Nissan Cube is fun to drive, with lively acceleration and an impressively absorbent ride. Features: The 2011 Nissan Cube comes reasonably well equipped with amenities like air conditioning, power windows, mirrors, and locks, remote keyless entry, and an intermittent rear wiper.

2011 Nissan Xterra

2011 Nissan Xterra in white colour

The Nissan Xterra is an excellent off-road SUV. Though it isn’t as comfortable as car-based crossover SUVs, test drivers claim that the Xterra has a more refined on-road demeanor than many other off-road SUVs. “The 2011 Nissan Xterra is the one most easy to live with."

For 2011, the Nissan Xterra's Off-Road trim level has been renamed Pro-4X, while the SE trim level has been dropped.

The 2011 Nissan Xterra is the one most easy to live with.

To go along with the Xterra's tough-guy appearance, you'll find sturdy body-on-frame construction, a burly V6, tall ground clearance and an available four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing. The premium Pro-4X trim further bolsters the Xterra's off-highway credentials with skid plates, a driver-selectable locking rear differential, hill descent control and roof-mounted lights.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Nissan Xterra is a five-passenger, four-door SUV available with rear- and four-wheel drive. The Xterra X comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels, privacy glass, keyless entry, power locks and mirrors, cruise control, air-conditioning, tilt-only steering wheel, and a six-speaker CD sound system. The Xterra S gains 16-inch alloy wheels, off-road tires, a height-adjustable driver seat with lumbar control, a first aid kit and a cargo organization system. The Pro-4X adds an electronic locking rear differential, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, skid plates, different 16-inch alloy wheels, upgraded off-road tires, foglamps, roof-mounted off-road lights, unique cloth upholstery, a fold-flat passenger seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, white-face gauges, an auto-dimming rearview mirror (with built-in compass), Bluetooth and a nine-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system with a six-CD changer, auxiliary audio jack, steering-wheel audio controls and satellite radio (with automatic transmission only). The Pro-4X Leather package adds leather upholstery and a passenger seat back pocket, but deletes the passenger seat's flat-folding capability.

Rear-wheel drive is standard on all but the Pro-4X, while the available four-wheel-drive system features a multimode transfer case with low-range gearing.

In Edmunds performance testing, an Xterra 4x4 with an automatic transmission went from zero to 60 mph in 8 seconds. The rear-drive Xterra returns an EPA-estimated 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined.

Safety

The 2011 Nissan Xterra is equipped with antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. Xterra Pro-4X models also come with hill-descent control and hill-start assist. The Nissan Xterra has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. The Xterra's interior controls are easy to use and reach.

Driving Impressions

Thanks to the 2011 Nissan Xterra's powerful V6, performance is sure to satisfy. On the road, the Xterra maneuvers confidently with precise steering and relatively minimal body roll.

2012 McLaren MP4-12C

2012 McLaren MP4-12C in front side view

McLaren is one of those storied names in motoring, from its successful Formula One team to its iconic McLaren F1 supercar of the 1990s. The MP4 will be powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 mounted amidships and driving the rear wheels. The MP4-12C's construction relies heavily on carbon fiber and aluminum. The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C's price (estimated to be about $265,000) will be considerably less than that of the legendary McLaren F1 (which was never officially sold here) or Mercedes SLR McLaren.

2012 McLaren MP4-12C are needed only 100 yards to make it clear that will not play by the rules Enzo supercar. We hope to MP4 that will quickly and track-hungry, but we noted a stroller ride with “normal” mode engaged for chassis-track scars and tarred in Mexilhoeira Grande, Portugal, where McLaren presented the fruit of seven-year labor Rang “Holy cow!” You open the door of the dramatic spring 2012 McLaren MP4‘s insect wings with a sweep hand flush surface along the top edge tucked under the side scoop. The most impressive part of the cockpit is arranged smart center console. There is a big red button to fire engines, one button to adjust the treatment parameters, a second button to adjust the behavior of the powertrain, and five single-button functions logically positioned. Punching hot button with the brake pedal depressed polite gesture whoosh behind your shoulder. Attract the right side of the paddle to shift gear.

Dual-clutch box provided such noise and chug-free roll-off, you’ll swear there are torque converter work here. Under light throttle, automatic upshifts smoothly and quickly executed. MP4 is the unspoken mantra is speed without the spectacle.

Fortunately, politeness is just one aspect of the soul 2012 McLaren MP4′s. With a 4000-rpm spread between peak torque and horsepower and 17.4 psi increase in the press, 2012 McLaren MP4′s engine’s 3.8-liter feels more like a strapping V-10 from a mini V-8. Torque curve as flat as the electric motor.

2012 McLaren MP4 said that broad torque curve and 5.4 pounds per horsepower will hit 458 Italian Ferrari on the run to 60 mph (in three seconds flat) and through the quarter mile (less than 11 seconds). MP4 will examine critical and box speediness joy-ride. If you fill out a curve with excessive speed, MP4 automatically apply the brakes in the rear to reduce understeer you are provoked. MP4 has two special weapons found in no other supercar. Low Seat bolsters are spread to accommodate the thighs of thunder, defects easily solved by ordering the optional sports seats. A sport, lightweight exhaust system also comes hard. Lastly, MP4 can use the mat better than rat fur covering doorsills.

However, MP4 A to gain inspiration and execution.

Bumps don’t jangle its nerves. We expected the MP4 to be quick and track-hungry, but the baby-carriage ride we noted with the “normal” chassis mode—engaged for the scarred and tarred paths in Mexilhoeira Grande, Portugal, where McLaren presented the fruits of its seven-year labor—rang our “holy cow!” bell.

2011 Suzuki SX4 Sedan

2011 Suzuki SX4

The 2011 Suzuki SX4 is a compact car that is available in Sportback, Sedan, and Crossover trims. Fuel mileage ranges from an EPA estimated 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Safety is comprised of eight standard airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic brake distribution, brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring.

Suzuki SX4 is offered as either a 5-door hatchback or 4-door sedan. Sedans are available in Base and LE trim, with Sport Sedans available in S, SE and GTS trim. Hatchbacks are offered in Base, Technology and Premium trim levels.

Suzuki SX4’s most appealing feature is available all-wheel drive. Shoppers who don’t need this option should research the competition -- there are more affordable cars with better fuel economy ratings available.

This price is still more expensive than the $16,999 Suzuki SX4 Crossover, which is the only model that comes with standard all-wheel drive.

Look at the Ford Fiesta and the Honda Fit. Both are available as hatchbacks, offer a lot of cargo room, zippy performance and sip fuel. The Fiesta sedan starts at $13,320, a little less than the SX4 sedan.

The SX4 is available in four models: a sedan, a sport sedan, sportback and crossover.

A manual six-speed transmission is standard, with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) that replaced the outgoing four-speed automatic.

Also standard now are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, traction and anti-skid control.

The Suzuki SX4 Sedan manages 23 mpg city with either transmission, but the base sedan with a manual manages the best of the bunch with 33 highway miles per gallon. The SX4 Sport model manages slightly less, with 23 city across the board, but a peak of 32 highway with the manual, and 30 highway for the CVT.

The base SX4 Sedan comes standard with an information display screen, power windows, locks and mirrors, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, six-way adjustable driver's seat and an MP3-ready stereo with speed-sensitive volume controls.

For the SX4 Sport, standard features include a touch-screen navigation system, CD and MP3 capable stereo, steering wheel controls, tilt0adjustable steering wheel, remote keyless entry, power windows, locks and mirrors and more.
